The Dagpo Shedrupling Monastery located in a remote village called Kais required us to install a retrofit elevator shaft to create easy access to the various levels within the temple block.
As the conditions of the 10-year-old existing building did not allow for intensive modifications, it was decided to locate the elevator shaft outside. This did not affect the processes of the monastery, and also allowed for the to be independent of the main building.
The elevator shaft which is about 2.25mX2.25m and 15m high has been connected to the existing building with steel bridges. These bridges have been plugged-in to the existing structure in a way that it will not affect the stability of the elevator shaft as this region falls under the seismic zone.
